Früher lag Carolinensiel direkt am Meer. Davon zeugt noch heute der Museumshafen im Ortskern. Zu seiner Blütezeit im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert war er der zweitgrößte ostfriesische Siel- und Handelshafen. Heute ist er mit den hier vor Anker liegenden traditionellen Plattboden-Seglern und dem historischen Gebäudeensemble des Deutschen Sielhafenmuseums ein Ort mit besonderem Charme und maritimem Flair.
