XT1 and Studio Flash

I have tried to use the XT1 with studio flash (via a radio trigger) and while manually setting the shutter (1/180sec) and aperture (F16), I cannot see the subject under modelling lights (100w). because the image appears underexposed. How do I view through the viewfinder (not LCD) and focus at the widest aperture and then shoot at the correct settings. Focus assist is just not practical with a dark viewfinder.

Open the menu. Go to "SCREEN SET-UP" and set "PREVIEW EXP./WB IN MANUAL MODE" to "OFF".
